Bahai9:Tips on citing the Bahá'í Writings
Some of the information below may be outdated. Please see https://bahai-library.com/abbreviations_bahai_writings and https://bahai-library.com/zamir/shortcuts/ for more up-to-date information.
Shortcuts[edit]
Although you may use the format for the links below when making links (and will still need to of course for your own sites), when you make links at this wiki site, you can also use the simple shortcuts as available at InterWikiMap . Thus to link to par. 33 of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas, you just need to type kap:33 within the wiki code. If you do not use an alias, it will appear like this: kap:33. However, to look more attractive, you may wish to precede the shortcut code with an alias (enclosing the expression in brackets) such as: Kitáb-i-Aqdas, par. 33 so that it will appear like this: Kitáb-i-Aqdas, par. 33. Using these shortcuts will also make it easier for others to edit, since the wiki pages will not be cluttered with long URL's. The general convention we have used at the InterWikiMap for Bahá'í sites is to use an abbreviation for each work as the shortcut to jump to a specific page. We follow the work's abbreviation with a "p" to link to a specific paragraph of that work (e.g., kap:20 for paragraph 20 of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas-- kap:20), and a "y" to indicate a Yahoo search of just that work (e.g., kay:language to search for the term language, though this is for some reason not working at present) . The exception to this rule is for the searches of the general Writings pages, in which case the "y" precedes the author abbreviaion (e.g., "blya" searches (with Yahoo) the Bahá'í Library Online's collection of Writings of 'Abdu'l-Bahá). If you have any suggestions for alterations or additions to the InterWikiMap, please discuss them here. The shortcuts may not all work, but they should be tried before using long URL's. It should also save everyone time.
Macintosh Users[edit]
If you have a Macintosh computer you could download a new (free) program called Sogudi. It installs itself into your Safari browser. This program allows you to type in shortcuts (we have used the same shortcut codes in our wiki site as is described above) in the Safari URL window to do searches/finds at for your own customizable sites. For example, one can customize "Sogudi" so that one can enter "ka " followed by a space and a number within the URL window (e.g., "ka 45") and this will bring a person to a page of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas at the Bahá'í Library site (in this case page 45 of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas at https://bahai-library.com/writings/bahaullah/aqdas/kaall.html#45). Sogudi shortcuts (using Yahoo's search engine) can be added (and have been--see below) to search subdomains within the Bahá'í Library site (enabling one the useful feature as to be able to search all of the Sacred Writings alone (or even just the contents of one book alone)).
One preferences list (to be used in conjunction with Safari) which has a good number of shortcuts, is available here for download (for all of the Bahá'í Writings titles and a few other sites). Copy the text of the file at this page (here is a more frequently updated version off site but it does not yet auto-update; the following sogudishortcuts is also more frequently updated but must be copied (and saved as .plist text file) to work) into a text file on your local hard-drive and then save it as "SogudiShortcuts.plist" and then put the file into your Home:Library:ApplicationSupport folder (replacing the one that Sogudi will install for you; first install Sogudi--see below), you should then have access to all of these shortcuts. You can also view them (and alter or delete them if you wish) within Safari by clicking on "Sogudi" under the "edit" menu once Sogudi is installed (see below).
You can download Sogudi at http://www.atamadison.com/w/kitzkikz.php . None of the above can be taken as any kind of guarantee.
Used in combination with another free program, Quicksilver, Sogudi shortcuts can become globally accessible. One must first download the Safari plug-in available from this website.

Converting documents for linking[edit]
The following tips may be helpful for quickly converting a document to include links (or wiki tables, etc.) (to allow those of us here to link directly to your pages or so that you can link more easily to us or other Bahá'í sites:
