Claims of Trinity in the Bible

Monotheism is affirmed[edit]

"Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one."

(Deuteronomy 6:4

"“This is what the Lord says—Israel’s King and Redeemer, the Lord Almighty:

"I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God."

(Isaiah 44:6

"yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live."

(1 Corinthians 8:6)

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinguished from one another in Scripture[edit]

The Father is God: Referred to as Lord/God[edit]

"Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.”"

(John 6:27)

The Son is God: Jesus is identified as God[edit]

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God."

(John 1:1)

"I and the Father are one.”"

(John 10:30)

"But about the Son he says,

"“Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever; a scepter of justice will be the scepter of your kingdom."

(Hebrews 1:8)

"Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!”"

(John 20:28)

The Holy Spirit is God: The Spirit is referred to as God[edit]

"Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”"

(Acts 5:3-4)

All three are referenced[edit]

The Son is baptized, the Spirit descends, and the Father speaks[edit]

"As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.”"

(Matthew 3:16–17)

Jesus commands baptizing in the "name" (singular) of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit[edit]

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,"

(Matthew 28:19)

Paul refers to all three in a benediction[edit]

"May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all."

(2 Corinthians 13:14)

Reference to the Lord and His Spirit[edit]

"And now the Sovereign Lord has sent me, endowed with his Spirit."

(Isaiah 48:16)
