Personal relationship with God in the Bible

The phrasing of a personal relationship with God or Christ does not exist in the Bible per se. The following speak to personal and friendship-like dimensions within a relationship to God.

Knowing God personally

[edit]

Jesus defines eternal life as knowing God and Christ

[edit]

"Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."

(John 17:3)

Approach of God/Christ to us

[edit]

God will come near to us if we come near to Him

[edit]

"Come near to God and he will come near to you."

(James 4:8)

Christ promises fellowship to individuals who heed Him

[edit]

"Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me."

(Revelation 3:20)

Jesus describes how the Father loves obedient believers and He will come to them

[edit]

"Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them."

(John 14:23)
