Storehouse
Detailed references giving an overview of some of the principles of a Bahá'í economic system/storehouse[edit]
- Economics compilation, sel. 9 (or see Redistribution of Wealth (compilation) no. 9), 10, 11; some mention of the tax in 31
Property bequeathed by those without heirs shall revert to the House of Justice for benefit of orphaned (and widowed)[edit]
"Should the deceased leave no offspring, their share shall revert to the House of Justice, to be expended by the Trustees of the All-Merciful on the orphaned and widowed, and on whatsoever will bring benefit to the generality of the people, that all may give thanks unto their Lord, the All-Gracious, the Pardoner."
- (Bahá'u'lláh, Kitáb-i-Aqdas, paragraph 21)
The Local House of Justice is to receive property bequeathed by those without heirs[edit]
"In a Tablet enumerating the revenues of the local treasury, 'Abdu'l-Bahá includes those inheritances for which there are no heirs, thus indicating that the House of Justice referred to in these passages of the Aqdas relating to inheritance is the local one."
- (Note 42 of the Kitáb-i-Aqdas)
- (Note: Excerpts 9 of the Economics compilation mentions "property without an heir" as a revenue of the storehouse and excerpt 11 states "whosoever dies without leaving any heirs all his heritage will go to the general storehouse". This verse from the Kitáb-i-Aqdas mentions something omitted in the Tablets: expending the money also for the widowed.)
Now is not the time to establish a Bahá'í village[edit]
"Now is not the time for the friends to seek to establish a Bahá'í village; they have definite tasks confronting them of the utmost importance and urgency, and on these they should concentrate their attention. Nor does the Guardian feel it is necessary for the friends to buy land at this time. In the future, when they have accomplished the goals set out for them by the beloved Master Himself, they will be able to develop more community projects, but now such enterprises would merely dissipate their strength, which should all be directed into the teaching work."
- (26 March 1943; quoted in Redistribution of Wealth (compilation), no. 30)
