Background and outline of proof from Paris Talks on the existence of the soul
[edit]While the passage from Paris Talks is phrased around prayer rather than physical hunger, it relies on the exact same logical premise as such a proof (the teleological argument from desire/instinct):
1. The Premise: No natural or spiritual capacity/instinct in creation is created in vain or without a purpose.
2. The Observation: Humans possess a universal, innate spiritual instinct that prompts them to pray for and love those who have passed away.
3. The Conclusion: That instinct would be pointless and meaningless ("given in vain") if the departed ceased to exist. Therefore, the instinct itself bears witness to the continuance of the soul.
It is conceptually identical to the classic "argument from hunger" (that an innate capacity implies a corresponding reality), applied specifically here to the human heart's instinctual outreach toward the deceased.
