Twelve principles

This page is about what some Bahá'ís call the "twelve principles". 'Abdu'l-Bahá, however, stated these principles in different numbers at different times.

3 Religion ought to be the Cause of Love and Affection. (Not given separately.) 6 Equalization of Means of Existence The equality of man and woman Independent investigation of truth The equality of man and woman Equality between mankind and womankind Equality and Brotherhood must be established among all members of mankind Religious, racial, political, economic and patriotic prejudices destroy the edifice of humanity
7 Equality of Men before the Law The education of all members of society Equality between men and women Prejudice and fanaticism-- whether sectarian, denominational, patriotic or political--are destructive to the foundation of human solidarity Readjustment of the economic questions in the social body Arrangements of the circumstances of the people must be such that poverty shall disappear Origination of one language that may be

spread universally among the people

8 Universal Peace The world of humanity is in need of the breath of the Holy Spirit The abandoning of all prejudices among mankind Universal peace Philosophy sufficeth not and is not conducive to the absolute happiness of mankind (Need of the breadth of the Holy Spirit) The coming of the Most Great Peace Equality of women and men
9 Non-Interference of Religion and Politics Universal peace All mankind should attain knowledge and acquire an education Hearts must receive the Bounty of the Holy Spirit Voluntary sharing of one’s property with others

10 Equality of Sex--Education of Women Universal education Remedy for the economic question Man’s freedom, that through the ideal Power he should be free and emancipated from the captivity of the world of nature
11 The Power of the Holy Spirit A universal language The House of Justice, which is endowed with a political as well as a religious function Religion is a mighty bulwark
12 Solution of the economic problem The ordination and appointment of the Center of the Covenant Although material civilization is one of the

means for the progress of the world of mankind, yet until it becomes combined with Divine civilization, the desired result, which is the felicity of mankind, will not be attained
