Use of the Greatest Name[edit]

(The Greatest Name is to be used:)

  1. first awakening moment of early dawn
  2. daily invocation
  3. in trouble
  4. under opposition
  5. the last word breathed when the head rests upon the pillow at night

"The Greatest Name should be found upon the lips in the first awakening moment of early dawn. It should be fed upon by constant use in daily invocation, in trouble, under opposition, and should be the last word breathed when the head rests upon the pillow at night. It is the name of comfort, protection, happiness, illumination, love and unity.

"I hope that thou mayest become informed of the concealed mystery and recondite symbol of the stone of the Most Great Name... The use of the Greatest Name and dependence upon it, cause the soul to strip itself of the husks of mortality and to step forth freed, reborn, a new creature...."

('Abdu'l-Bahá, United States Supplement to Baha'i News, No. 80, p. 2, October 1964; in Lights of Guidance, no. 892)

Application Question[edit]

Is this use of the Greatest Name to refer to use of "Alláh-u-Abhá" (as in the recitation of 95 Alláh-u-Abhás) or to "Yá Bahá'u'l-Abhá" or either?

Recite the Greatest Name every morning[edit]

"Recite the Greatest Name at every morn, and turn thou unto the Kingdom of Abha, until thou mayest apprehend my mysteries."

(Tablets of 'Abdu'l-Bahá, p. 674)

"Dost thou remember when Mrs. ….….. was talking with thee, what a cheerful feeling thou felt in thy heart? And what a gladness and rejoicing thou didst find? Even thy friends were astonished at what was the cause of this joy. Therefore, follow thou that rejoicing, and continue (saying) the Greatest Name every morning."

('Abdu'l-Bahá, Tablets of 'Abdu'l-Bahá, p. 673)
